Characteristics of ink coatings

2025,08,01
Ink coating is a special coating widely used in printing, packaging, decoration and other fields, which is mainly composed of film-forming resin, pigment, solvent and additives. Its core function is to form a solid and durable color or functional coating on the surface of the substrate, and at the same time, it has good adhesion, gloss and weather resistance. According to different application scenarios, ink coatings can be divided into solvent-based, water-based, UV curing and other types, each with its own characteristics.

1. Composition and classification
The basic components of ink coatings include:

Resin: As a film-forming substance, it determines the hardness, flexibility and adhesion of the coating. Acrylic acid, polyurethane and epoxy resin are commonly used.

Pigment: provides color and hiding power. Inorganic pigments (such as titanium dioxide) have strong weather resistance and organic pigments have bright colors.

Solvent: Adjusting viscosity is convenient for construction. Volatile organic compounds (VOC) are used in solvent-based coatings, while water-based coatings are more environmentally friendly.

Additives: such as leveling agent, defoamer, etc., used to improve the process performance.

Classification by curing mode:

Solvent: fast drying, good chemical resistance, but high VOC emission.

Water-based: environmental protection and non-toxic, suitable for food packaging, but the drying speed is slow.

UV curing type: it can be cured instantly by ultraviolet rays, which is energy-saving and efficient and suitable for precision printing.

2. Application field

Printing industry: books, labels, banknotes and other special printing needs high-precision ink.

Packaging materials: non-toxic water-based ink is required for food packaging, and high-temperature resistant paint is required for metal packaging.

Industrial coating: antistatic ink for electronic product shell, wear-resistant coating for automobile parts, etc.

3. Development trend
With the tightening of environmental regulations, low VOC water-based and UV inks have become the mainstream. The introduction of nanotechnology has improved the antibacterial and conductive properties of coatings. For example, the ink added with nano-titanium dioxide has self-cleaning ability and is suitable for outdoor advertising. In the future, intelligent inks (such as temperature-changing and light-changing coatings) will play a greater role in anti-counterfeiting and interactive packaging.

In a word, ink coatings are both practical and innovative materials, and their development closely meets the needs of green and functional industries.
