Using polyurethane adhesive - Safety precautions are essential

2026,01,20
Polyurethane adhesives are widely used in industrial production and daily maintenance due to their high bonding strength and wide applicability. However, during use, strict control of safety details is necessary to prevent health hazards and safety risks. The key precautions are as follows:

The operating environment must meet the standards. Ventilation and fire prevention are crucial. Polyurethane adhesives often contain volatile organic solvents, which can release irritating gases. Long-term inhalation of these gases may damage the respiratory tract and nervous system. During operation, it is necessary to ensure good ventilation at the site by opening exhaust fans or opening windows for ventilation. Avoid working in enclosed spaces. At the same time, organic solvents are flammable substances. Smoking and the use of open flames are strictly prohibited at the site. They must be kept away from high-temperature equipment and flammable and explosive items. Fire-fighting equipment such as dry powder fire extinguishers should be equipped to prevent fire and explosion accidents.

Personal protection must be adequate to avoid direct contact. Operators should wear protective masks, nitrile gloves, protective glasses, and, if necessary, protective clothing. Skin contact with the adhesive can easily cause allergies and burns. In case of accidental contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water and then wipe with alcohol or a dedicated cleaning agent; if eyes are contacted, quickly rinse with flowing water for more than 15 minutes and seek medical attention promptly. It is strictly prohibited to eat, drink, or rub eyes during the operation to prevent harmful substances from entering the mouth or eyes.

Follow the procedures and operate in accordance with the norms to avoid construction risks. Before use, read the product manual, mix the adhesive in the prescribed proportion, avoid violent impacts during mixing to prevent material splashing. Control the coating amount during construction to prevent the adhesive from overflowing. Unsolidified adhesive layers are prone to produce harmful substances, so it is necessary to clean up the waste materials in time. During the curing process, avoid touching the bonding surface and prevent children and irrelevant personnel from approaching the working area.

Storage and disposal must comply with regulations. The adhesive should be sealed and stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated, and light-proof warehouse, away from fire sources and oxidants. Direct sunlight exposure is strictly prohibited. The storage temperature should be controlled within 5-30℃. The containers of discarded adhesive and residual materials need to be classified and stored according to the standards for hazardous waste, and handed over to professional institutions for disposal. They must not be casually discarded or poured into the sewer, to avoid environmental pollution and potential safety hazards.
